- Donation Boxes
- We have two donation boxes, which we plan to put in the canteen so that people can donate money towards our initial funds.
We will use this initial balance in order to purchase Fairtrade produce to sell.
If you would like to donate some money towards our cause, speak to me (Ben), Alice or Andy. - Fairtrade Staffroom
- We think that Fairtrade tea and coffee in the staffroom would be a good idea, in order to set a good example to pupils and raise awareness.
- Fairfest
- We will be arranging a Fairtrade Fest (Fairfest) in which bands and comedians will perform. Tickets will be available and Fairtrade products such as chocolates and drinks and possibly clothing will be available to buy. All money raised will go to the Fairtrade group.
- Canteen
- Encourage the school canteen to sell more Fairtrade foods, hopefully ending up with all products having been fairly traded.
- Fairtrade School Status
- This is one of our long term goals: to get the school to the point where it can get official status for its fairtradeiness. This would help improve the image of the school. We hope to achieve Fairtrade status by working towards the following criteria:
- Set up a Fairtrade School Steering Group (or committee). At least half of whom are pupils or students and we meet together at least once a term.
- Get the school to write and adopt a whole-school Fairtrade Policy. Get the support of the board of Governors and get the Policy signed by the Headteacher.
- Sell, promote and use Fairtrade products as much as possible. If we have problems, we can at least show that we have tried and will continue trying.
- Try to get fairtrade concepts taught in lessons.
- Promote and take action for Fairtrade at least once a term in the school and once a year in the wider community. This way it becomes a regular part of what we do, and allows everyone to take part in helping to bring about a fairer world.
- Set up a Fairtrade School Steering Group (or committee). At least half of whom are pupils or students and we meet together at least once a term.
- Fairtrade Assembly
- Do an assembly about Fairtrade and let people know about both fairtrade in general and what we are doing as a group.
- Posters
- UPDATE: We now have several posters explaining FairTrade situated around the school.
Create posters to inform people about Fairtrade. - Increase Awarness
- We should try to increase the awareness of fairtrade in the school and the wider community. We can do this through:
- The poster project
- Write an article for the Audit or SFJ
- Campaign Nationally and Globally
- Take part in petitions organised by national groups and help further the cause by writing letters to MPs or Companies.
A group of us could also take part in a protest march at some point. - Selling Fairtrade Produce
- We hope to sell Fairtrade goods in order to promote them and inform people about them. We definitely hope to do this at the Fairfest, but we have not decided where/when else. If we do sell products within school we will be considerate of the school canteen staff.
About Us

We are a group of young people at Audenshaw School (all lower sixth students at the moment) who believe the current trade system is unfair. We wish to raise awareness of the terrible circumstances that third world producers are in - how they are paid so little and ignored by authorities. We aim to help change this, by supporting trade justice, so that in the future third world producers get a fair amount.
We were formed at the end of 2007 and have meetings every Tuesday. We have already come up with a list of things we would like to do, and are now working on realising them.
If you would like to help us in our mission, we have a donation box for and money you wish to donate and if you would like to get involved, our meetings are Tuesdays after school.
